If there was one thing I could get across to project managers, company owners, and CTOs, it would be Struan Robertson’s advice from a recent article Legal reasons to make intranets, extranets and software accessible on Out-Law:
Employers without disabled members of staff should think ahead when procuring new systems: it makes more commercial sense to ‘buy accessible’ whenever possible to accommodate a more diverse workforce.
That article is for intranet’s and software used by staff, but it’s just as applicable to external facing sites. The number of organisations (and therefore people) stuck with inaccessible CMSs, intranets and other applications beggars belief.
